GOODYEAR, AZ — The Goodyear Police Department is investigating an assault on a teen who was grabbed while walking to school Thursday morning.
Authorities say a 14-year-old girl was alone while walking to Desert Edge High School at around 7:30 when a man grabbed her from behind.
She was walking in the area of 159th Avenue and Jefferson Street when the alleged assault happened.
The incident was initially reported as an attempted kidnapping, and upon investigation authorities say there is not enough evidence to support that.
Police say the man allegedly grabbed the girl from behind reportedly let go and ran away once he saw a vehicle heading in their direction.
The suspect is described as a clean-shaven Hispanic man in his 30s. He was reportedly wearing shorts and a beanie.
Goodyear police believe this to be an isolated incident.
No schools are currently on lockdown due to this incident.
