Goodyear police say a known sex offender was found with a 13-year-old girl late Sunday night.
Monte Fuller, 44, was reportedly seen parked in a BMW sedan before midnight in the parking lot of Thomas Park. Further investigation showed that he had been living with a family member in Goodyear since March 3rd and was a registered sex offender from California.
The teen was in the car with him at the time, but police did not release information as to why.
"The fact of the matter is it's late on Sunday night, it's almost midnight and there's a car parked in the parking lot. Officers go there and find an adult man with a very young female, that's very suspicious," Goodyear Police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis said.
"No physical contact was made, both were clothed. So I think fortunately, patrol officers got there at just the right time."
Arizona law requires sex offenders to register within 10 days of moving. In this case that did not happen.
"This young lady's parent's did not know she was out, or give consent to her being with this gentleman," said Kutis. "I'm told through the interview process that he verbally coerced her into the vehicle."
Fuller was booked into jail on charges of failing to register locally within a 10-day period, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and unlawful imprisonment.
