A man is accused of assaulting two police officers in Goodyear on Tuesday.
Officers were called to the area of Estrella Parkway and Van Buren Street around 7 p.m. after receiving 911 reports of an altercation involving several people.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were confronted by 26-year-old Lavontay Laurice Taylor who is accused of threatening to fight the officers.
During the incident, Taylor allegedly “took down” an officer, causing him or her to suffer a head injury. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The officer has since been released.
A second officer was also injured while placing Taylor in custody. He or she was not hospitalized.
Taylor was arrested on several charges including aggravated assault, aggravated assault on an officer, resisting arrest, threatening and/or intimidating and obstructing law enforcement.
