A mother and daughter are safe after crashing and getting lost for hours in the middle of the desert Monday night, according to the Goodyear Police Department.
Authorities said a woman and her 11-year-old daughter were traveling at the south end of Estrella Parkway when their vehicle crashed into a ditch. The woman called 911 shortly before 11 a.m. to ask for help but when officers arrived to the scene no one was there.
Phoenix police and the Department of Public Safety assisted Goodyear police in searching for the mother and daughter on the ground and by air. The two were located separately early Tuesday morning approximately one mile from the crash scene.
The woman told officers she became separated from her daughter after the crash because she was disoriented. The mother and daughter, who just moved to Phoenix from Utah, were not injured.
Goodyear police urge residents to keep warm blankets in their vehicles in case of emergencies.
