Fallout after video shows schoolyard fight in Laveen

Markus Hines has a message for his daughter's school.

Monday was his third day protesting outside of Betty Fairfax High School near 59th Avenue and Baseline Road. But he's not fighting about lunch prices, homework or too many tests; he says he's fighting to save his daughter's life.

"What happened to my daughter should not have happened, period," Hines said.

Video is now going viral, showing his daughter involved in an attack that happened last week on school grounds. In that video, several students can be seen hitting his daughter, shoving her to the ground -- and it appears his daughter was even gasping for air.

"No parent should have to go on YouTube or Facebook to see their daughter laid out," he said.

Hines says the problems started after his daughter was cyber bullied. She tried to confront the students who were behind the bullying, but says it took a violent turn.

We spoke with one of the girls involved in the fight and her family. They claim you can see their daughter getting her hair pulled and dragged. Monday they told ABC15 their daughter acted out of self defense.

One man who lives in the community is frustrated people didn't step in sooner.

"The kids are more worried about a YouTube video than they are about calling the damn police!"

Parents told us all the girls involved were suspended. The Phoenix Union High School District is not able to comment on the exact punishments by law, but says it takes all instances of bullying and fighting very seriously.
