Nearly 30 cats were removed from a home in Litchfield Park Thursday morning after detectives received a tip about possible animal hoarding.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said the three dozen animals will be taken to a veterinarian to be evaluated. Up to 40 additional cats are believed to be living outside the home near Sarival and Glendale avenues.
"The conditions are deplorable. How anybody can live in those conditions is unknown to me," said spokesman Chris Hegstrom.
He said detectives have investigated the homeowner, a 55-year-old woman, before, but specific details were not immediately released.
Air15 video showed officials carrying multiple kennels out of the home.
