PEORIA, AZ — It's the first major holiday weekend since the coronavirus pandemic, and many people went out to Valley lakes and rivers for Memorial Day.
Edith Coix and her family set up a tent at Scorpion Bay on Lake Pleasant. She said she wanted to enjoy the day while staying away from crowds.
"We have been like... two months it's been that we've been inside? So it's nice to get out, very nice," said Coix. "We were looking for a place that we could have that social distance because where we were yesterday was kind of congested, a lot of people. But here, it's pretty cool, very open, very lovely."
"Get in the water, have fun, and enjoy the boat," said Daniel Avila, who was going out on a boat with his family.
It's been a busy weekend on the Salt River too. Salt River Tubing requires everyone to wear face coverings. They gave out free bandanas to people who rent tubes.
"We want to keep you safe, and we also want to keep our employees safe and healthy. Please cooperate with us, it won't be forever," said Lynda Breault, the VP of Salt River Tubing.
"We feel comfortable with coming back into the world, going back to normal, so we'll see how that goes, hopefully great," said Cecilia Vargas.
