Grand Avenue at the Loop 101 is back open almost 12 hours after a hot asphalt tanker overturned.
Peoria Fire Department said the truck overturned after exiting the freeway and spilled hot asphalt onto the roadway.
Officials said some of the liquid has gone into storm drains and leaked onto the freeway, but crews were able to contain it.
The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. Fire officials initially said the driver had not been taken to the hospital.
