An eight-year-old boy is seriously injured after being hit by a sand rail in the desert off New River Road, Peoria fire officials say.
According to officials, the boy was riding his dirt bike near New River Road off the Carefree Highway when he was hit by a sand rail.
Peoria Police say the boy was transported to the nearest hospital by helicopter.
He sustained a sustained a head injury, fire officials say.
The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. Police have not released the identity of the child.
