PEORIA, AZ — Times are really tough right now. Many restaurants around the Valley have had to close their doors in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and in efforts to stop the virus's spread.
But, not all restaurants have closed. Many remain open for takeout pick-up orders, as well as delivery, and need our help. That's why we launched "We're Open, Arizona," an effort to showcase local restaurants around town.
Our latest venture takes us to the Peoria Cafe, a family-owned business near Peoria and Grand avenues that has been part of the Peoria, Arizona community for more than 20 years.
One of the restaurant's managers told ABC15 that sales have dropped by 80%, yet their loyal customers have continued to come through and support them. They are also looking to take care of the health care community who is working so hard to take care of all of us, offering health care workers 50% off their meals.
"A lot of health care workers are actually getting canceled, which definitely puts a damper on their paychecks and how they support their families. And they just do so much for us and they're overworked and we just want to find a way to give back to them, have them put food on the table and have it be less of a concern and more of an enjoyment," said Amanda Ayyoub, a nurse in the Valley.
In order to get the discount, health care workers have to show their badge.
The Peoria Cafe specializes in a lot of breakfast favorites, including eggs, omelets, French toast, pancakes, and eggs benefit. For lunch, the menu features hamburgers, hot or cold sandwiches, and salads.
