Peoria animal control and fire officials rescued a small dog from a flowing storm canal early Friday morning.
According to Peoria Fire-Medical officials, a passerby found a small black dog trapped in a storm canal near the Loop 101 and Bell Road.
The officer requested more assistance and called fire officials for help.
A firefighter was able to use a ladder to grab the dog, who was facing rising waters.
“What started as a trickle was at least six to eight inches of running water by the time we left the scene,” said Fire Captain Justin Gorospe.
Officials saw the dog was wearing a collar and he was able to be reunited with family after running away on Thursday night.
