LAKE PLEASANT, AZ — A 16-year-old boy died at the hospital Friday evening after being pulled out of Lake Pleasant earlier in the day.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he went under the water while swimming at Lake Pleasant. In an evening update, MCSO said the boy had passed away at the hospital.
Two bystanders helped pull the teen out of the water, MCSO spokesperson Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez said in a tweet. The boy was there swimming with friends, he said.
MCSO detectives were advised the 16 year old boy who was transported from Lake Pleasant earlier today has passed away at the hospital.

A spokesperson for the Peoria Fire-Medical Department said CPR was performed after the boy was pulled out of the water.
The incident happened near S. Park Road and Desert Tortoise Road, near the campground of the same name.
No further details were immediately available.
The boy's identity has not yet been released.
