A man accused of shooting and injuring a woman with a firearm has been taken into custody by the Peoria Police Department.
According to police, a man, identified as 68-year-old Yousuf Toma, shot through a door of an apartment near 87th and Peoria avenues, and a bullet hit a woman in the chest area shortly before 2 p.m.
She was taken to a hospital, and her injury was non-life threatening.
Police believe the suspect shot the woman after he was arguing with a man that lives inside the home. Police say the suspect is a close family member or friend of the woman, but the relationship between the woman and the man living in the apartment isn't clear just yet.
Toma was arrested after the shooting near 103rd and Northern avenues around 4 p.m.
