SURPRISE, AZ — Residents in Surprise will soon be able to receive their Walmart groceries via delivery of an autonomous vehicle.
Walmart announced a pilot program in partnership with a driverless vehicle company, Udelv, to bring online groceries from the national chain to customers in Surprise.
Groceries will be hand-picked by personal shoppers and then delivered in a custom-made cargo van to customers, according to a press release.

The service is expected to launch later this month, but an exact date was not given. Residents in Surprise who want to try out the service will have to place an online grocery order through Walmart once the service launches.
This will mark the second autonomous grocery delivery service to come to the Valley so far, as Kroger began testing a similar service in Scottsdale in August 2018.
