Bridge construction is beginning at a major Surprise intersection this morning as part of a project that is expected to last into 2017.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is constructing a new traffic interchange at the intersection of Bell Road and Grand Avenue.
Early construction began in January 2016, with bridge construction slated for April. This work means a closure of Bell Road for several months.
Work on the bridge portion of the project is supposed to last until nearly the end of 2016.
The project is set to alleviate heavy traffic and safety issues in the area.
Once completed, ADOT says the Bell Road bridge will go over Grand Avenue and the adjacent railroad tracks.
