PD: Bloody man drives to off-duty officer in Surprise, dies

Police are investigating the death of an injured man who drove up to an officer at a construction scene in Surprise.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Parkview Place and Greenway Road.

An off-duty officer working traffic control for a road construction scene reported a white vehicle driving erratically toward him. The driver came to a stop when he reached the officer. 

The driver, a 19-year-old man, was reportedly alone in the car and was bleeding profusely. The officer rendered aid to the man and called for help from emergency crews. 

Police say the man was taken to the hospital and passed away from his injuries. 

Investigators are working to learn what happened to the man, and are investigating his death as a homicide. 

The victim has only been identified at this time as a Pacific Islander. 

No further information has been released.
