Surprise police are warning people to stay vigilant after officers said a man was shot by a pellet or BB gun while jogging around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday near Bell Road and Bell Point Boulevard.

In a post on the department’s Facebook page, investigators said the man felt a sharp pain and noticed he was bleeding. The shooter was believed to be in a lifted white pickup truck that left the area.

“This neighborhood is usually quiet as a mouse,” said Melvin Hall, who lives nearby and typically walks his dog around that time in the morning.

“We need to keep our eyes out and band together,” he said, adding he now plans to carry a weapon while out walking.

Police said the jogger was treated by paramedics at the scene and his wounds were superficial.

Anyone with information on this case is being urged to call the department’s anonymous tip line at 623-222-TIPS or email CrimeTips@Surpriseaz.gov.
