Police have identified one of two women found dead in a Surprise home on Tuesday.

Officers were called to a home near Reems and Bell roads around 9:30 p.m. to conduct a welfare check.

An out-of-state family member told police that she could not get a hold of her mother who was visiting a friend. She could not get in touch with the friend either.

When officers arrived, they found two women dead from apparent gunshot wounds, according to a media release. One of the women was identified as 70-year-old Barbara Leslie. She is also owns the home where the women were found.

The other deceased woman's identity was not released because family members asked for her name to be withheld, police said.

Surprise police is not ruling out murder-suicide but they do not believe this is the case. Police believe someone came inside the house but there is no sign of forced entry.

Detectives are at the home Wednesday morning conducting a search warrant to gather evidence and figure out what lead to the women's deaths. They are also going door to door asking neighbors if they heard or saw anything.

Officials are not releasing a suspect of vehicle description.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surprise police at 623-222-8477 or call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS if you wish to remain anonymous.
