Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Surprise.
Officers were called to the area of Bell and El Mirage roads before noon on Wednesday for a welfare check.

Surprise Police say 61-year-old George M. Pappas of Surprise was armed with a knife, and shot and killed at the scene.
No officers were injured during the incident.
No further information was released.
