A suspect is at large after displaying a handgun at Surprise police officers and carjacking a vehicle on Monday afternoon.
According to police, officers were attempting to stop 51-year-old Lonnie Smith, who was wanted on a felony warrant for property and drug crimes, near Bell and Litchfield roads.
Smith displayed a firearm at officers leading to one of the officers to discharge his weapon at Smith, police said. It's unclear if Smith was shot or not. Smith then fled on foot and carjacked a 2011 gray Toyota Sienna minivan with an Arizona license plate: BWS-2977.
No officers were injured in the incident.
Smith is believed to be armed and dangerous. If spotted, police advise to not confront him; instead, call 911.
