Valley mom makes second career on Instagram

They are famous, without the paparazzi, and they could be living right next door.

These Valley women have thousands of followers on their social media accounts. They are mothers -- some of them stay at home and some work full-time jobs -- but they are making money on their posts and sharing their secrets to success this week in our ABC15 series.

Our second mother lives in the west Valley and has more than 20,000 followers. She has a full-time job and a degree in forensic science. She is all about lifestyle and motherhood on her account: The Melissa Lifestyle.

"I know my husband's like, 'What are you doing on your phone again?" Melissa Moore laughed, "I said, 'Well, I'm working.'"

Moore said an understanding partner is part of the success of her blog and Instagram because she is one busy mom.

"I'm working full-time...40 hours a week," Moore explained. "Sometimes I even work on the weekends....I feel like two careers."

Moore started blogging before Instagram became what it is today. She said the integration has been vital to her success.

"It's all-encompassing of just fashion and fitness," Moore described. "It's also juggling all these things together and...really connecting with those folks."

That is the key to her following but she said with the clicks come the questions.

"A lot of personal friends that I have kind of look at me like, 'What do you do and how do you make money?'" Moore said.

So, ABC15 asked Moore the same thing.

She said it is through her ads, sponsored posts and affiliated linking, which is wearing or showing off a product that a follower could end up buying.

"You see a model on the magazine and you're like, 'I don't know this person. Would I wear what she is wearing?' But, I think with us it's like, 'Well, she's the same size as I am. She's 5'2 and petite and I want to wear what she's wearing,'" Moore described.

But, if you are looking to post your way to Instagram fame and fortune, there has to be a lot of work behind the scenes - including within yourself.

"'Why am I doing this? Why am I reaching out to people? Why am I posting a photo?'" Moore asked. "If you don't back it up with a story, then I think people can't connect with you and then people will just scroll."

She said catching someone's attention comes from posting about what makes you passionate.

"One of my favorite quotes from Marie Forleo, she's one of - like a business mentor: 'When you're talking to everyone, you're talking to no one.'"
