Vacation mistakes that are costing you money

Vacations are great...until you realize you went way over budget.

There are several things many of us are doing that are costing us, so I have three vacation mistakes you'll want to avoid in order to save some cash.

First, don’t assume you need a rental car. Consider other options like public transit, ride sharing, or even Zipcar, which lets you borrow cars by the day.

Second, don't forget to check resort fees, which can range from $25 to $100.

Traveling during high season is another way to pay more. Of course, you’re going to pay the most since the demand is high. Instead, travel during off-peak seasons if it makes sense.

Another mistake is not asking about deals. If you don’t ask, how can you expect to save?

And when you’re searching for deals, don’t get stuck using one search engine. Set alerts with some of your favorites (I like Expedia, Google Flights and Kayak), and let the sites do the work for you.

Also, don’t assume that Wi-Fi is includedAsk beforehand, because that could help you decide between places to stay.
