THE "I AM WHAT I AM" IMPACT PROJECT:

Arizona Broadway Theatre also offers community impact projects for each production. For La Cage, there is a teen and youth anti-bullying initiative called, "I Am What I Am" IMPACT PROJECT.

Brad York, Director of Marketing and Development at Arizona Broadway Theatre explains, "The show's now infamous torch-song, "I am what I am" has now become an anthem within the greater LGBTQ community worldwide. Now, while the central themes of La Cage focus on issues of inclusion and acceptance related to the LGBTQ community, our intent with The Impact Project is to broaden the focus of inclusion and acceptance among all people- regardless of one's sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, national origin or socioeconomic background." Click here to watch the full explanation, to learn more about the project and how it works.

Brad sent me a video link, where teens talk about their experiences being bullied, along with startling statistics. During various testimonials in the video, text appears on the screen stating, "Seventy-seven percent of students have been bullied mentally, verbally, or physically. Fifty percent of adolescents and teens have been cyberbullied, and 160K students miss school each day for fear of bullying." Click here to see the powerful video.

They also partner with Phoenix-based one-n-ten, a nonprofit organization that serves LGBTQ youth ages 14 to 24, offering weekly discussion groups, networking events, and, as the website states, "tools and opportunities to improve self-esteem and self-acceptance.... to promote healthy choices and living."

Brad told us that staff from Arizona Broadway Theatre, Herberger Theater Center, project sponsors and, "the cast of La Cage will visit the facility in downtown Phoenix to interact with the young adults on their own turf."

What a great cause, for a great show, and now you can see and enjoy it with our great deal!
