You just finished having a wonderful day with family, friends and possibly some gift giving. And while we do our best to find the perfect presents for loved ones, what if there's a gift you want to return to the store?

Consumer Reports came out with their list of the best and worst stores for returning gifts. So, which stores top the "Nice" list?

Nordstrom does not require receipts, there are no time limits, and no original tags needed.

Costco has no time limit on returns and no receipt necessary, except certain items like electronics.

Kohl's has a "hassle-free" policy with no time limit on returns, and if you don't have a receipt, they can look up prior purchases. The exception is returning premium electronics, that has a 30-day limit.

As for the worst listed?

At Forever 21, gifts have to be returned within 30 days of purchase to get an exchange or refund, and you must have the receipt.

Barnes and Noble gives you 14 days from the date you received the item to be able to return. With a gift receipt, you have 60 days.

And at Game Stop, a receipt is always required within 30 days for unopened items and only seven days for pre-owned.

The bottom line: The best thing you can do is NOT open the box, keep gift receipts and always check those return policies before going to the store.
