Underlight: does it work? We test it out in the dark!

Posted

Have you ever needed something in the middle of the night, like a glass of water or maybe even a snack? Walking through the dark can be challenging, so that's why we decided to try Underlight!

THE CLAIM:

Underlight is motion-censored accent lighting that you can use anywhere without any plugs or contractors. Add three, double-A batteries, peel and stick, and place Underlight where you need or want it. The motion censor can swivel to pick up movement. You can either select Underlight to automatically turn off after one minute or after five minutes.

The infomercial shows Underlight being placed under beds, in dark closets, under cabinets, in a pantry, and more.

We bought Underlight from As Seen on TV for $14.95. The package comes with two, 12-inch LED strips. Batteries are not included.

We connected the lights, put the batteries in, turn on the box for the motion sensor and selected it to automatically turn off after one minute.

We had my photographer Chad place Underlight somewhere at ABC 15, and I had to find it in the dark. It sensed my movement, turned on, and turned off again after 60 seconds. We tested it several times.

We also tested it with the lights on. It still worked for the most part, even though that defeats the purpose.

There is also a claim that Underlight's LEDs should work for 10,000 hours. We did not test that claim.

So, where does it rank on the Bull and No Bull Meter? I'm going with NO BULL!

Try it for yourself, and let us know what you think!
