Save at hotels for every trip with these simples strategies

Staying at nice hotels doesn't have to empty your wallet. I found simple ways for you to enjoy more, and pay less no matter where you're traveling.

First, book when others aren't.

Hotels in business districts offer deals on the weekend, while resort areas will offer better deals during the week.

If you want an upgrade...

You'll have better luck calling the hotel directly instead of "800" reservations numbers.

Also, check in near the end of the day.

And ask for a corner room to get a little extra square footage for the same price.

Book at newly opened hotels.

They tend to offer deals to get exposure.

Use social media.

Let the front desk know that you're very active on rating sites like Yelp, Tripadvisor, and any social media pages. They often offer extra perks.

And don't forget to sign up for alerts on travel websites and hotel’s loyalty programs so you're the first to know about deals. Often you can also get free upgrades for things like Wi-Fi if you’re a member.

While you’re on those travel sites, sign up for alerts on price drops.

Sites like Hotels.com and Expedia will email you when prices go below your desired price.

Look online for discounts.

You can also search sites like retailmenot.com or coupons.com to get promo codes.
