Whether you're planning a weekend trip or a vacation, when you buy can make or break your trip.
So how can you save the most?
First, shop Tuesdays at about noon because according to farecompare.com, that is when many airlines release their weekly sales.
As for actual traveling, fly Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays for domestic flights and choose times when most people don't want to fly, such as dawn or overnight.
Planning a trip for Thanksgiving or Christmas? September is your month to buy.
Also, always compare because no one airline always has the cheapest prices.
I often check Google Flights and Expedia, since you can set your budget and the map shows you what destinations fit. And don't forget to set airfare alerts so the travel sites can do the work for you.
Finally, I found a cool tool on Hotwire's site. It's called the Tripstarter Tool. You can plug in your home airport, getaway location, and the site tells you the cheapest times to fly to that location. How do you save on airfare? Email me at smartshopper@abc15.com
