Which store will get you the most for a buck -- Dollar stores or Walmart?

If you got it for a dollar, it must be a good deal, right?

That's why so many people shop dollar stores...but are they the best deal in town?

Cheapism.com compared dollar store prices to Walmart.

Which store do you think is cheaper?

The study found 50 items that are cheaper at dollar stores than at Walmart, including water bottles for nearly $7 per bottle at Walmart. Compare that to a dollar at Dollar Tree.

Swim goggles were more than 80 percent cheaper at Dollar General, with Walmart charging about $6.

You can also save on sunglasses, headphones and vases at dollar stores. Expect to pay about $5 each at Walmart.

 

This doesn't mean run to the dollar store because every dollar is NOT a deal. Some things the site says avoid are batteries, vitamins, and paper products.

 

Besides looking at quality, it's easy to know when to spend your cash. Just do the math so you know the cost per unit.
