PARADISE VALLEY, AZ — Two days after the superintendent of the Paradise Valley Unified School District officially resigned, ABC15 has learned the district will pay Dr. Jesse Welsh $413,378.55 as part of a lump sum severance payment in January 2021.

"District agrees to pay a lump sum severance payment on January 19, 2021 of $413,378. 55, minus standard payroll withholdings.
His annual base salary was $195,000.
The district and Dr. Welsh will not say why he resigned.
A joint statement released Monday only said, "After careful consideration over the last few weeks, it has been determined by the PV Schools Governing Board and Superintendent Welsh that it would be in the best interest for PVSchools and Dr. Welsh to separate, effective December 31, 2020."

The board's decision to accept his resignation comes after ABC15 confirmed that Dr. Welsh, and his family, were threatened and harassed by a small group of parents demanding in-person learning.
The district switched to remote learning on November 23 because of rising coronavirus numbers.
