WASHINGTON, D.C. — As the Senate began debate Tuesday on a historic second impeachment of former President Donald Trump, a new poll shows that more than half of Arizona Republicans still believe he won the November election.
The poll by OH Predictive Insights found that 60% of all Arizona voters are confident President Joe Biden won, but 20% of independents and 54% of registered Republicans believe Trump was "the rightful winner" in 2020.
The poll results were "like eyes-fell-out-of-my-head" surprising to pollster Mike Noble, while another political analyst said the Arizona Republican Party's continued insistence that the election was stolen could hurt it in the long run.
It comes as the Senate voted to move forward on an impeachment trial for Trump, who is accused of inciting the mob that stormed the Capitol Jan. 6 over the election results.
