Arizona to install sensors on I-15 bridges

Posted

Arizona will use a federal grant to pay for installing sensors on four Interstate 15 bridges in a remote corner of the state.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says the embedded sensors funded by a $768,000 Federal Highway Administration grant will record, analyze and share data that will help engineers identify problems so inspections, repairs and other work can be scheduled.

Just under 30 miles of I-15 cut across northwestern Arizona between southeastern Nevada and southwestern Utah.

The sensors will be installed on two bridges in Virgin River Gorge and two bridges in the gorge's outer reaches.
