PHOENIX — Nearly a year after being surrendered to an animal shelter, a 2-year-old dog was finally adopted - just in time for Christmas.

Last Christmas Eve, 2-year-old Monkey was brought to a rural rescue partner of Arizona Animal Welfare League and was transferred to AAWL in July. Over this past weekend he got the Christmas gift he always wanted, adoption.

To help Monkey get adopted, they posted his letter to Santa on Facebook, and he even got to meet Santa.

When he was adopted, his new family found out he had a girlfriend at the shelter named Cookie. The family then adopted her so they can stay together.

99 dogs and cats were adopted over the weekend at the Arizona Animal Welfare League, Arizona’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter.
