Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey sent out a flurry of tweets Thursday on stopping school violence, ahead of releasing his full legislative proposal.
The governor suggested creating a centralized tip line to report concerns of school safety. He also wants more money and enhanced training for school resource officers.
In a series of seven tweets, Ducey also shared photos of stakeholder meetings about protecting kids in class, but he has not met with the kids who staged a sit-in in the governor's lobby Wednesday.
The students are organizing March For Our Lives Phoenix. It's part of a nationwide event on March 24th. Spurred to action by the survivors of the school massacre in Parkland, FL, the marchers will demand changes to gun laws and increases in school counselors.
I’ve been meeting & listening to Arizonans on the issue of school safety:
✅ Students
✅ Parents
✅ Teachers
✅ Administrators
✅ @GeneralBrnovich
✅ Mental Health Experts
✅ Law Enforcement
✅ Both parties @AZHouseDems @AZSenateDems @AZHouseGOP @AZSenateGOP

Some of the priorities I’ve heard:
✅Increased mental and behavioral health resources at schools
✅Restricted access to weapons for individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others
✅Cracking-down on people illegally possessing weapons— Doug Ducey (@dougducey) March 15, 2018
MORE:
✅ Respecting the #2A rights of law-abiding Americans, while enforcing our laws on the books
✅ Increased school resource officer and law enforcement presence at schools
✅ Closing loopholes
✅ Enhanced background checks— Doug Ducey (@dougducey) March 15, 2018
We are building an aggressive plan that address all these issues around school safety. Arizona can lead the nation in tackling this – and in a way that is non-partisan. We’ve done this on other issues, and we can do it again.
