PHOENIX — With all the recent Valley rain, you could see your allergies acting up.
ABC15 talked with a local medical doctor, Donald Bucklin, who says you may notice your allergies kicking into high gear a month or two earlier than usual given the recent rain around the Valley.
"What you get with rain in the beginning is pollen granules swell and burst, so the pollen counts go way, way up," Bucklin said. "Then after a few minutes of rain, or a few hours, all that washes out and for a while the air is a lot cleaner...then of course, later on, you start getting the pollen from the mold and the grass and everything else."
Bucklin suggests staying ahead of your allergies before they get out of hand. If you're really allergic, he recommends taking a shower right when you get home to avoid tracking pollen around the house.
"We also don't very often have a hard freeze," he said. "I don't think we've even had one in a year. Without a hard freeze, things just keep growing and pollinating."
