June 14 marks the 73rd birthday of President Donald Trump, but several people on Twitter Friday have tweeted the hashtag #JohnMcCainDay.
The hashtag referencing the late U.S. Senator from Arizona started trending nationally on Twitter Friday.
In addition, a Change.org petition was started to officially mark June 14 as "John McCain day." As of midday Friday, the petition had over 700 signatures.
President Trump has vocalized his opinion of the Senator in the past, including saying that he 'never was, never will be' a fan of John McCain.
It's unclear who started the hashtag, but a Newsweek article suggested an NBC executive producer was the first to rally Twitter users.
Honoring an American hero today.
