MAP: Concealed weapons permits issued in AZ

Posted

With President Barack Obama's latest announcement bringing changes to the gun community, ABC15 decided to take a look at the prevalence of guns in the state, with a focus on concealed weapons.

Since the initiation of the Carrying a Concealed Weapon Program in 1994, the Arizona Department of Public Safety has kept a tally of active concealed weapon permits.

Currently, there are more than 250,000 active permits in the state, with more than 93,000 designated in Maricopa County.

Take a look at the map below to see how many permits are active in your county.

These numbers do not count permits that had changes to them, which could include suspended permits that have since been reinstated.

It should also be noted that in Arizona there is no law requiring a gun owner to have a permit to be able to conceal a carried weapon in public.

President Obama's announcement on Tuesday focused on closing the loophole on running background checks with someone purchases a gun.
