MCSO investigating after human remains found in Tonto National Forest

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating after human remains were found in the Tonto National Forest Sunday morning.

Officials say a man reported what appeared to be portions of a skeleton just west of milepost 216 along State Route 87. The area is south of Sunflower, about 56 miles east of Phoenix.

The remains have not yet been identified and the cause of death is currently unknown.

No further information is immediately available.
