QUEEN CREEK, AZ — Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly crash at Ironwood and Pima roads.
Deputies say the crash involving two cars occurred around 2:50 p.m. Thursday.
A woman driving a NIssan Quest was trying to make a left turn onto Pima Road when she struck a Honda Civic driven by a man.
A witness said the Civic was driving at a high rate of speed before the collision, and it's possible both vehicles were trying to "beat" the red light after the light turned yellow.
Police say the Quest hit the left side of the Civic and forced the vehicle into a traffic pole, causing fatal injuries to the driver.
The Quest driver and children inside the vehicle were not hurt in the crash.
