INDIAN WELLS, AZ — An officer with the Navajo Police Department is hospitalized following a shooting at a homicide scene.
Officials say the incident happened Tuesday night when officers were responding to a possible homicide at an address in Indian Wells, Arizona.
Upon arriving at the scene officers found a victim deceased from a stab wound to the chest.
While securing the area, an officer made contact with a man, at which point he allegedly struck the officer in the head with a blunt object, officials said.
A physical altercation ensued between the officer and man, resulting in the officer discharging his weapon.
The man was struck and transported to Flagstaff Medical Center where he died.
The officer involved was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Their current condition is unknown.
An investigation remains ongoing by the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigation and the FBI.
