New AZ Corporation Commission chairman appointed

The Arizona Corporation Commission has a new interim chairman after the resignation of former chairwoman Susan Bitter Smith over a legal battle with the state attorney general.

Doug Little will be interim chairman starting Jan. 5.

Bitter Smith announced she was stepping down over fallout from Attorney General Mark Brnovich's ongoing attempt to remove her from office.

Brnovich says Bitter Smith's employment by a cable industry association and a cable company that sells regulated telephone service is a clear conflict of interest with her role as a commissioner.

But Bitter Smith denies the accusation and has asked the state Supreme Court to find she has no conflict of interest.

Bitter Smith was elected in 2012. Little was elected in 2014 and has background in the computer software industry.
