Authorities are investigating the death of an Australian man who may have been struck by lightning at the Grand Canyon.
The National Parks Service reported that paramedics located the man about one mile into the South Kaibab Trail around 4 p.m., but were unable to resuscitate 21-year-old Jonathan Crowden.
The death is being investigated by the National Park Service and Coconino County Medical Center, but no additional information is available at this time.
In the past, serious injuries and fatalities have occurred due to lightning strikes at the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service says that if a lightning storm is active, visitors are encouraged to find shelter inside a building or car.
