Another monsoon storm hit the Phoenix metropolitan area Monday night.
Heavy rain with lightning and winds with gusts of up to 40 mph were reported in Phoenix and some surrounding cities.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the Phoenix metro area that expired around 8:15 p.m.
There were several reports of downed trees and power lines with Salt River Project saying thousands of homes and businesses in north central and east Phoenix without electricity along with about 400 utility customers in Mesa.
A man safely escaped after utility lines fell onto his truck after a power pole snapped near 15th Street and Indian School Road.
The man, who did not provide his name, told ABC15 that, “I’m lucky.”
Utility lines remained wrapped around the truck’s rear tire at 10 p.m. Monday.
The man was not hurt. It was unclear whether he needed to be rescued from the truck or if he escaped on his own. The man could not speak fluent English.
Indian School Road was closed for several blocks on either side of 15th Street as crews worked to clear the scene.
