ST. MICHAELS, AZ — Authorities say a man is dead after a shooting involving police on the Navajo Nation Wednesday.

Navajo police say the shooting happened in the community of Saint Michaels in northeastern Arizona.

Authorities say officers were trying to stop an armed man when the guy sped off in his car.

Police say when he eventually got out, he pointed a shotgun at officers who then opened fire, hitting the man.

Investigators say the man was transported to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Navajo police say the officers involved in this incident were not injured.

“At this time, additional information, including the names of the suspect and officers, will not be released due to the ongoing investigation.,” said Navajo Police PIO, Christina Tsosie.
