Phoenix man dies while hiking Kaibab Trail at Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON, AZ — Park officials at the Grand Canyon National Park are reporting a hiker death.

Park rangers received a call Tuesday, December 15, around 7:30 a.m. for reports of a fatality above the Black Bridge on the South Kaibab Trail.

When crews arrived they located a victim, identified as 23-year-old Jaiquan Carter of Phoenix.

It's believed Carter was day hiking when he fell approximately 80 feet from the South Kaibab Trail, said officials with the National Park Service.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the NPS and the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office.
