Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton has announced his intentions to run for Congress, following Rep. Kyrsten Sinema's announcement on a run for Senate.

In a video linked from his campaign site, Stanton said, "I'm running for Congress because we deserve better than we're getting."

Stanton will be running for the Congressional District 9 seat, currently held by Sinema. Sinema last week announced that she planned to run against Sen. Jeff Flake.

Mayor Stanton took office in 2012. Prior to that, he spent nine years on the City Council and as Arizona's Deputy Attorney General. 

So far, Daniel Valenzuela, a current City of Phoenix council member, is running as a mayoral candidate for Phoenix.
