A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, and local Scottsdale chef, 23-year-old Matthew Grunwald is about to make another appearance on the Food Network.
Chef Grunwald appeared on season 11 of Food Network Star and will now compete on the show Comeback Kitchen. Seven contestants from former shows will be invited back, including Grunwald, to hopefully earn a spot on season 12 of the show Food Network Star.
Grunwald is also a three-time champion of the show Cutthroat Kitchen, and is now a sous-chef at Virtu in Scottsdale.
Growing up, Grunwald says he always wanted to be a chef and loves being able to be a part of something that brings so many people together.
“Food builds culture. The dynamics of an environment can completely change with the right flavors and aromas,” Grunwald said. “It's such a powerful tool to bring people together.”
Whether he’s in the kitchen at Virtu, at home, or on TV, Grunwald said his goal is always the same; make great food and keep people entertained.
“My mission is to feed people and create an environment on TV and online where everyone feels welcome,” he said. “There should always be a take-a-away… a tool for success, something to empower them for greatness!”
