HEBER, AZ — Authorities in rural northeastern Arizona say a handcuffed fugitive being transported back to North Carolina escaped from four bail bondsmen during a stop at a convenience store.

The Navajo County Sheriff's Office said Robert Collins was last seen Wednesday running into a Heber neighborhood and that an area resident later reported a burglary in which a vehicle was stolen.

The sheriff's office says Collins stole a white 2008 Lexus GX7 SUV with Arizona license plate BXC1008.

Collins was apprehended in the Phoenix metro area to face burglary, vehicle theft and drug charges in North Carolina.

Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse said Saturday night Collins is believed to have returned to the Valley.

Collins is described as 5'7" tall and 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a sleeve tattoo on his left arm and a Playboy bunny on the right side of his neck.

Anyone who comes into contact with him is asked to contact law enforcement.
