A Valley prosecutor is personally moved to save teens from suicide after witnessing a high school tragedy.
Gina Godbehere, who works at the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, responded to a murder-suicide at Glendale's Independence High School in February 2016.
Thinking of her own two daughters and their friends, she organized with community leaders to create Speak Up, Stand Up, Save a Life.
Arizona has seen a rising number of teen suicides. In 2015, there were 47 suicides among children in Arizona according to the Arizona Child Fatality Review Program. If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, help is available now by clicking HERE.
"Could be your child, could be your neighbor’s child, could be their friend," Godbehere said. "No one is immune to this, and you may not know there's a problem until it's too late unless we can get the kids to speak up."
The group is planning its second annual rally in January to empower students to speak up. There's still an opportunity to get your child's school involved. Click HERE for more information.
