PHOENIX — Venezia's Pizzeria said its customers helped raise $72,000 for its employees during its recent "Employee Appreciation Day," where 100% of sales were slated for its employees.

The pizzeria also said that it would raise employee hourly wages by $2 for the next eight weeks because of the support.

"I cannot explain in words how grateful we are for our many loyal customers that showed up to support yesterday [Tuesday, April 21]. We appreciate each and every one of you," said owner Domenick Montanile in a post on Venezia's Facebook page. "We also want to thank the new customers who hadn’t tried Venezia’s before, and still ordered from us to support our employees. Welcome to the Venezia’s family and we hope to see you all again soon!"

Because of the outpouring of support, Montanile said wait times for pickup orders were longer than usual and offered his apologies.

"The huge outpouring of support from the community was unexpected but so appreciated," he said.

ABC15 recently highlighted Venezia's Pizzeria during our "We're Open Arizona" series, which is our commitment to showcase local restaurants around town who are open and in need of our support.

We're Open, Arizona: We know this is a tough time for a lot of people in our community, including local restaurants and businesses.
