The Arizona Cardinals roster was trimmed Saturday afternoon, with 16 players released or waived to get down to the final 53. Among the cuts, sixth-round pick Evan Weaver, former ASU running back, D.J. Foster, and former UA cornerback, Jace Whittaker.
Here is the list of the players released Saturday:
- Safety Kentrell Brice
- Defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard
- Tight end Dylan Cantrell
- Defensive lineman Trevon Coley
- Cornerback Ken Crawley
- Running back D.J. Foster
- Cornerback Chris Jones
- Offensive lineman Koda Martin
- Wide receiver Andre Patton
- Wide receiver A.J. Richardson
- Linebacker Reggie Walker
- Wide receiver JoJo Ward
- Running back Jonathan Ward
- Linebacker Evan Weaver
- Cornerback Jace Whittaker
In addition, the Cardinals waived/injured wide receiver Johnnie Dixon.
The Cardinals drafted Evan Weaver in the sixth-round after the Cal inside linebacker recorded 181 total tackles, a Pac-12 single-season record, and won the conference's Defensive Player of the Year award. With the addition of three other linebackers during the offseason, the Cardinals had a logjam at the position coming into training camp.
D.J. Foster went undrafted out of Arizona State in 2016, ultimately signing with the New England Patriots for one season. He joined the Cardinals in 2017, appearing in seven games with 17 receptions for 133 yards. Foster missed the last two seasons with injuries.
His release, along with Johnathan Ward, means seventh-round pick Eno Benjamin made the team. The former Sun Devil is one of only three running backs now on the Cardinals roster.
The Cardinals previously cut five players on Friday, including second-year wide receiver Hakeem Butler.
